Too big and complicated to return

3

The coat turned out to be really big, and quite heavy, and quite masculine looking. I don't think it's for every day city use. Maybe for long wet treks in the woods. Returning the coat proved to be complicated and not at all convenient. Return was not free like most stores I order from, so I had to pay. Was on hold for an hour and still couldn't reach anyone to get a return label. Took 2 weeks to get a reply on my email request. Maybe it's because of the holidays, but was pretty annoying, especially as the same three songs play over and over while you're on hold. Won't order from Eddie Bauer again unless returns are free.

The only coat I need!

5

I walk to work, and this fall I realized I lacked both a waterproof trench for mild days and a truly warm waterproof coat for rain and snow days, and this is both! I prefer knee-length coats and at 5'3" the petite large hits right above the knee. I ordered up from my usual Petite Medium because I needed to layer over thicker tops and be comfortable enough to move in.Style: I looked at similar coats in other places but chose this one because it's simple and dressy enough to go almost anywhere. I got the dark gray, so that plus minimal detailing make it a nice clean oversize fit that doesn't look at all sloppy. It's a much more tailored look than other outdoor coats of similar styles. The first day I got it I walked in the rain to a trendy restaurant and it was perfect.Features I love: dual zipper so I can unzip it from the bottom, snaps for when I'm in a hurry, the button-in liner, the breast pocket (too rare in women's jackets!) and the adjustable zip off hood. A few folks have commented that the hood could be warmer, but I actually prefer that it's not heavily lined so I can wear a wool cap under it. A heavily-lined hood wouldn't keep the wind out enough for me.Minor quibbles: I wish the lining zipped in rather than buttoned. This would make it faster to change out and likely be more durable than the buttons, which I expect to need to reinforce after a year or two. I take the lining in and out a lot, even during winter based on how I'm layering my clothes underneath. The fit of the sleeves is also not ideal for me, which is the case with the other older EB coat I own. They somehow don't let me bend my arms at the elbow very easily, even though the arms on this Petite Large are plenty big. They're also still a bit long on the petite, reaching the knuckles on my fingers. I sometimes cuff them and luckily they look kind of cute that way. Finally, I wish the funnel neck was higher to keep the rain and cold out without needing a scarf.

Arm Holes Constricting

1

I pretty much am an Eddie girl. Hardly wear anything also. Everything consistently fits. I bought a medium because ALLLLLL my Eddie coats and jackets have been mediums - except when I know I'm barely wearing anything under them. I had on an Eddie's women's flannel shirt and jeans when I tried this on (mail order). The armholes were incredibly tight. The sleeves were tight. So we're the sides. My husband could see it... he said wow that's unusual for Eddie's... he, too wear's way too much Eddie's. May I say I returned this... first thing I've returned in I can't tell you how many years. Maybe I just got a sewing defect... who knows... it just was really sub-par for Eddie's. Disappointed.

It Fit the Bill for those 40ish days

4

We get a lot of 40-ish degree weather in Maine, and I wanted a coat that wasn't a down parka but would be both long enough to cover my long sweaters and warm enough to ward off the damp chill. This coat fits both bills and the fact that it alleges to be waterproof (haven't yet worn it in the rain) is a bonus. I struggled to find the right fit - I'm 5'10" so ordered a Large Tall which was TOO long in the sleeves and snug through the hips so sent it back and got a reg XL which was way too big -- the regular Large was the charm, but even that is a tad on the loose side.
