Nice looking, unsure about warmth

I really like the look and functional ability of this jacket. Seems like it is also water resistant. Buying it online though I was not able to see the actual thickness of the jacket. They tout this as a 'mountaineering' jacket but I am not convinced that this would be very warm on a cold mountain. It has more of a spring jacket feel to it. It is currently winter in WI and I can say that it is not insulated as most winter jackets are.It is quite thin and if you wear this in cold climates you will need some sort of base layer. Nice jacket and I still like it, just not sure it would hold up to what they advertise it to be.

Great concept, but...

Let me start by saying I love Eddie Bauer, and I'm a completely loyal customer. Their quality and prices are outstanding, and I probably buy at least 2 pieces a year from them. I'm wearing an IgniteLite pullover as I write this, which I wear daily. I especially love their FirstAcent line, and most of the Eddie Bauer I buy comes from it. Let me also say that I understand if some of these complaints are personal--you should check out a review a few ones below mine that describes the exact opposite experience I had.I bought this jacket (sz sm; I'm 5ft 7in and 150 lbs) to replace a Mammut soft shell that I had been wearing over said IgniteLite pullover (sz med), under which I wore a mid layer shirt or two. I snowshoe, hike, and ski. I am returning this jacket for a few reasons:-I found that it's baggy fit coupled with it's thinness let too much of my body heat out. I don't want an insulated jacket, but I was hoping this would be a thicker soft shell.-The jacket went below my waistline, which was a bit awkward for me, and maybe a personal issue. I do feel like the jacket is cut especially wide at the waist.-To get sleeves in gloves, the wrist bands had to be velcroed to the point that (1) the sleeve itself was disproportionately roomy and (2) the cold air that penetrated the jacket got a bit trapped in the sleeve (relatedly, I wish it had thumbholes...)-Wind resistance wasn't as strong as I had hoped.-No armpit zippers to ventilate in warm winter conditionsEven though I went into this purchase thinking this would be a good winter layer with the system I described above, I got the feeling it was more of a fall layer. So, for sure, still love EB, and I'll always come here first. Perhaps these issues are personal; perhaps they're not, but this was my experience. Hope it helps.

Overall Great Jacket

Great stretch material. My profession is electrical line clearance vegetation management. I basically climb trees for a living and trim around powerlines. So having that stretch is awesome. I wear this particular jacket with one of the down jackets that Eddie Bauer offers and it's a great combo! The down jacket underneath keeps me warm and the soft shell over top keeps that heat in and keeps the wind out. I will say that I believe that all the sizes run a little big, but it may be perfect depending on how many layers and what not you're wearing under. I wear all Eddie Bauer apparel for work and when I do recreational tree climbing events and I have 0 complaints.
