Perfection Evolved. Version 2.0 of our premium ultralight has an improved fit that's more comfortable and mobile, a slightly longer length for added coverage and warmth, a softer fabric to further enhance the comfort, and a secure drawcord hem to seal out cold and fine-tune the fit.

As an ultralight insulating layer, the MicroTherm is thinner than traditional down jackets. But that combination of minimal bulk and effective warmth is what makes it special, and is the result of its patented construction and the exceptionally high-loft StormDown that it holds close to the body for maximum thermal efficiency.

Not a fan of this one

Let's be clear, I love the ED Ascent line of clothing but this jacket is a real dud for me. The fit is ridiculously trim and confining. I'm thin, athletic with no belly and this jacket feels more like a cocoon. Hood is way too small with no adjustment. Outer fabric is not my favorite. Zipper is terrible and sticks halfway up. Insult to injury...the "free" return will cost me $6.00 because my local EB store closed last year with no notice! I'm still a big EB fan but really disappointed with this product, for sure.

Cant go wrong with this Jacket!!!!

Always comfortable, warm doesn't feel like i am wearing a coat. Enough room to layer under with a fleece pullover.

That Dude

Very Warm for it's Weight

I purchased this jacket as a mid layer for my hunting clothing system. The athletic fit of the jacket is great for a mid layer. It is warmer than a sweatshirt or fleece would be, and lighter weight. I run slightly colder than average, but even with a well layered system I get cold after a couple hours of being stationary with temps around 25-30f and 10-15mph winds. The advertised temp ratings are with no wind, and no layering. In active situations with layers it would probably provide enough warmth and wind resistance to go sub zero as advertised. The jacket has great mobility and breathes well at the shoulders and armpits through the stretch panels, but doesn't provide great wind resistance due to the stretch panels. You can really start to feel much wind over 15 mph without a hard shell on top. If you're looking for more of an outer layer parka, the downlight stormdown or one of the evertherm's may be a better route to go. The microtherm is advertised as an ultralight insulation layer, and that is what it is. The minimal weight and compressed size make it a great piece to throw in your pack when it's too warm to wear it. As with most down pieces, feathers are prone to poking out of the shell, hopefully it doesn't get bad enough to become a problem.

Excellent upgrade from using fleece layer

Goodbye fleece layer, hello MicroTherm. Really great upgrade to my layering strategy - where I used to use fleece zip up or pull-over for years - this hooded storm down is lighter, thinner, way packable and has a super cozy hood. Stretchy panel in rear/shoulder work well. No binding when reaching for bike handle bars or climbing. With a wind shell/storm shell as final layer - and your choice of base layers - you are set to go. Indeed, this is a down item, and you'll need to watch out for the material getting snagged in the bushes or sitting back on a logs or rocks - That just the way it goes for these things. If you're looking for something that is better in super cold weather - where you're not really moving too much (Ice fishing, tree stand /hunting) you'll do better with some of the more heartier down offerings from EB.
