looks great, but not a rain jacket

3

This jacket fits great (I'm 6'5" 175) and the medium tall looks slick but it has some minor drawbacks and a major deal breaker. I would like a stretchy cuffs as it can be a pain to put on and take off and I feel the fabric would eventually rip doing so. The pockets are a bit of a mess with the lower right pocket having three separate pockets within and there being no breast pocket - I often lose track of where I put my vitals. A clever removable hood would be a great improvement but The tuck away works and looks fine. Lastly, the color looked nothing like what was advertised but I was able to get over it as soon as I tried it on. Minor issues. My major gripe and overall deal breaker is the lack of rain and wind protection. After a few weeks of owning this jacket and wearing it daily (without being washed) it really started to rain here in Seattle and the lack of waterproofing came to light. It isn't advertised as a rain jacket, but I don't know what something so thin would be useful for if not as an outer shell to block wind and rain. Layers are key here so I need to make way for something that provides more protection from the elements. Thanks EB for a fantastic return policy as I already found a replacement and look forward to testing it throughout the year.

Worth the money

I'm glad I bought this jacket, it's perfect for those days where you want to be covered up, but it's not freezing outside. The jacket fits me perfectly (I bought an XL and I'm 6'2, 220lbs), and it looks sharp. It has an inner pocket that zips closed that will comfortably hold a passport. The jacket is new so I can't comment on the overall quality/longevity, I guess time will tell, but I have no doubt that it will last being that it's Eddie Bauer.

Good, Not in Love

I have to admit...I am biased. I really liked my original Atlas. Although I have only worn this ~dozen times, I already know I will get drenched in heavy rains, persistent (day-long) lighter rains, and likely not fully windproof. I like the older style of zip away hood, not the tuck style now. It's cheaper and doesn't look as good. I do not trust the zippers, as my old jacket's zipper broke. Not sure why they don't design with a heavier gauge zipper? I am curious why not make the front zipper black to camouflage it better? Why not have dual top zipper pockets. If I want quick access, I could just leave one semi or completely unzipped. I do not fully trust the velcro will not begin to wear out within a year or two. This jacket is NOT waterproof. It fits snug and does not have a "relaxed" fit to it. Overall, it's a nice jacket to have in your wardrobe. Do I call this my "go to" travel jacket for utilitarian travel purposes - No. If you can get it on sale buy it, otherwise this is not (IMHO) a true top-tier rain jacket.

Style, Not Warmth

4

I love this jacket! Especially how it fits and looks. It doesn't keep warm at all but for a spring time, early fall jacket it is perfect. It also works great if I am going out and need to look a littler nicer, its a great jacket to throw on. Definitely recommend this jacket, but if you want something to keep you warm get something else.
