Awesome jacket!

I bought this jacket as I wanted something relatively lightweight but strong enough to withstand some abuse. I often will do aggressive hikes through heavily forested areas and have had lightweight shells rip while hiking thru trees. The e-vent membrane keeps up with my excessive heat output (read: pre-menopausal hot flashes) and is sturdy enough for year round use. I bought Large as I wanted the versatility of wearing it 4 season. I also have a small dog and wanted something that would stand up to picking her up on cold/yukky days without seeing much wear and tear. I'm debating buying it in black as well now as the teal gets dirty soooo quick.

Very noisy

I want great waterproof and breathable in a rain garment, this is thatBut why is it so difficult to get this fabric in an unlined trench coat length as to keep thighs dry in the rain.My biggest disappointment is how noise this coat is with movement!,

Love this Jacket

I love this jacket. Its a great shell and it fits me so much better than other brands which are made for people who don't seem to have hips. The blue colour is so much nicer in person than it looks online too. I use this jacket for a lot of back country mountain activities and its nice and light and packs down small but also does a good job of repelling wind and water.I usually wear a down jacket under it and it doesn't feel too tight and moves with me well. I'm 5'2 and 135lbs and the Small jacket fits perfectly.

As I write this, I'm still undecided whether I will keep this coat or send it back. I don't think that I would have been happy with the jacket at full price; at 40% off, it presents a decision dilemnna. First, it's still a pretty expensive jacket at that, and there are some features I would expect in a jacket in this price range that are missing. 1) a two way zipper, 2) a sturdy zipper (this thing is TINY - which may be intentional in a waterproof jacket, but it does concern me as a potential weak point - and getting it hooked up with gloves on would likely be a challenge 3) some give, somewhere 4) a little softer fabric. This is the first serious waterproof/water resistant layer I have purchased - so I don't know what is reasonable to expect in this type of garment. Maybe you can have flexibility, or water resistance and breatheability, but not all three at the same time, but this fabric is really quite unusual in my experience. It's fairly stiff - though thin and light - and quite crinkly. A bit like donning a cross between a plastic and a paper bag. Sort of. It won't be quiet, of that I'm sure. It certainly looks like it would be water resistant. The cut is beautiful, however. It's a pretty coat on (if you care about that, when you're hiking). The zipper is coated. The seams are precise. It's just beautifully made. The black is a pure, matte, jet black; it's very striking. I tried it on over a silk underlayer topped with a light fleece 1/4 zip top to see if I was going to be able to manage warm as well as waterproof. It seems to be ok, but, there is no give in the fabric or the design anywhere so it feels like it could be somewhat restrictive through the shoulders sometimes. Probably just fine for walking and about town. More demanding, active pursuits? I'm just not certain.I really want to like this coat. I'd feel a bit better about gambling that I will be happy with it in use if it were not quite so expensive.
