I was looking to replace an old Eddie Bauer coat that I love that is more of a water resistant soft shell (size Medium petite) with something a little more waterproof. I got my usual size, medium petite (I usually wear 8 petite), as I saw that this was not one of the "active fit" coats that fits a little closer, hoping I would be able to layer a bit. This seemed to be only petite across the shoulders/back, which were tight, and the sleeves were at least 3 inches too long and there are no snaps or elastics or anything to keep the sleeves from just hanging. With the lining, I don't know if I could have layered even a light sweater, and even without the lining, if I lifted my arms, it felt tight across the back. I would have had to go to a large petite but then the arms would still be a problem. I am going to send this back and try the soft shell trench in a large petite and hope the arms aren't enormously long. I wish Eddie Bauer would leave a little more space across the upper back/arm holes of coats so it is possible to layer a little and still move your arms. If you're not very muscular around the upper back/upper arms, you might be able to make this coat work, but not for anyone who swims, kayaks, or otherwise has some upper body muscles.
