As a long time Eddie Bauer shopper, I must confess to being very unhappy with this jacket. It looks great on my kiddo, and I'm sure it will be fine for dry cool days, but I live in Olympia Washington. If a day is cool here, it's probably going to rain at some point. This is why I bought this jacket; it says it has Storm Repel. Presumably the same Storm Repel as my Atlas jacket and water rolls off of that thing, so naturally I expected the same from this one. One rainy day on the playground at recess and his jacket is visibly soaked. It actually absorbed water into the shell. My husband's 3-in-1 jacket has loop and snap attachments in the sleeve (and the back of the neck) so that the grown man won't have to struggle with slipping sleeves or separating layers, but this same feature isn't included in the kid's jacket. It's actually caused frustration with the teaching staff at school because when the kindergartner takes it off, the inner sleeve pulls right out and getting him back in it takes extra time. My husband's 3-in-1 has zipper pockets so stuff doesn't fall out, this jacket does not. The adult 3-in-1 has adjustable toggles in the hood. The hood in this jacket does not have an adjustable hood, when the hood is up, the kid can't see. On the positive side: the jacket looks great, my son loves the fleece layer and how soft it is on his face when it's zipped up. I'm sure it will be great for cool dry days, but being a PNW company, I expected it to stand up to a PNW rain. I would be happy with this jacket if it repelled water, and had the loop and snap attachments at the very least. I would suggest that Eddie Bauer send some samples home with some of store managers that have kids across different regions in return for quality assessment and feedback.

I bought these online for my boys for an upcoming ski trip. Unfortunately they are much thinner than the adult version of this jacket from Eddie Bauer. I think my boys will freeze, so I am going to return them. In my opinion the jackets are sufficient to at most 40 degrees Fahrenheit. (I wish they had this information listed like they do on the adult jackets). But they would make a fantastic jacket solution for cool spring and fall days.
