BIG CITY MOUNTAINEERS' MISSION
Founded in 1990, Big City Mountaineers’ goal is to instill critical life skills in under-resourced youth
through transformative wilderness mentoring experiences. In the last 28 years, Big City Mountaineers has
served over 9,000 kids, conducted nearly 800 expeditions, organized over 5,000 volunteers, and provided
nearly 42,000 nights under the stars for kids who would not have otherwise had the opportunity.

Big City Mountaineers’ wilderness expeditions focus on improving the self-esteem, sense of
responsibility,
group communication, and decision-making skills of youth in seven cities across the country, including
Boston, Denver, Miami, Portland, Minneapolis, San Francisco, and Seattle.
