Comments about Women|Accessories|Gloves Women's Lodge Mittens:

Mittens are real easy to find, but I like mittens because I find them much warmer than gloves. Hasn't everyone heard that the best way to keep warm in a sleeping bag outdoors is body heat that isn't blocked by tons of clothing? Same way with my fingers - their individual warmth helps keep the others warm. If you separate them with "finger channels", they can't keep each other warm. I was leery of the separate fingers but many reviews were good so thought I would try them. At least they are not particularly difficult to get on/off, but I just didn't find them as warm as I had hoped. Also, if you are tall, maybe size up. I can't recall just how gloves are sized, but I am a 5'9" female, 140 lbs, and the L fits me in these. They are ok to keep in a purse so I don't have to have my hands exposed when carrying groceries home without a car, but I am not thrilled.

    Not warm

Comments about Women|Accessories|Gloves Women's Lodge Mittens:

I own several Eddie Bauer down coats, jackets, vests, and even the down throw. I love my Lodge Down coats. I needed warm gloves/mittens for driving to work. Surely Lodge Down mittens would keep my hands warm, I thought. I ordered the Sun Valley down and the Lodge Down mittens. When they arrived, I realized that they are identical except for the exterior fabric, so I returned the Sun Valley Down mittens. The black Lodge Down would go with all my coats.

I have been testing them all week. Imagine sleeping on a bed of ice covered with a cuddly down blanket. Would you be warm? No, and neither are my hands in these mittens. There is nice down insulation on the back of the hands, but your sensory receptors are in your fingertips, so I can feel every bump and detail on my steering wheel through the thin polyester windbreaker fabric and thin finger lining, as well as the coldness of the steering wheel. My fingertips hurt within the first 10 minutes of the drive. These mittens need Down insulation on both sides of fingers and thumb.

The fur is not removable so they can't be machine washed. This is another downfall, especially during flu season.

I read another review about them coming apart after one day of skiing. They are advertised as "great for casual wear" , so I planned only to use them for driving and walking. The fabric is so thin that I wouldn't expect them to withstand much abrasion.

I got these for 40% off and with a $10 reward. That is about all they are worth like this. Eddie Bauer, add down to the finger areas, make the fur cuff removable so they are washable, Finally, use a more heavy duty palm fabric that can handle a little more abrasion, then you would have a winner!

Wear them all the time in the cold winter. Wore them every day in snowy northern Idaho and they kept my hands toasty warm during my Christmas vacation.

Terrible mittens - not warm at all

        By Dona

        from Minnesota

Comments about Women|Accessories|Gloves Women's Lodge Mittens:

These mittens are a total fail. Inside the mitten, on the palms of your hands (where you would naturally be touching cold things and therefore need insulation) there is just a very thin layer of fleece covered by a very thin nylon layer. 100% of the insulation appears to be focused on the back of the hand, which makes no sense. Wearing these mittens to drive my car with its icy cold steering wheel in the mornings is almost the same as not wearing any mittens/gloves at all. I'm very disappointed. These mittens *look* like they would be very warm and they are very pretty, though. So, I guess maybe only get these if you want to look good but don't need to have warm hands?
