World's Best Down®

A Field & Stream Best of the Best: 2012 Hunting Gear Award Winner.
"Originally designed for mountaineers...this jacket was refined for hunters with the addition of a fleece-lined collar, a water-repellant coating, and durable Cordura overlays. The stretch panels flex when you do, whether mounting a rifle or scaling cliffs."

As seen in MensJournal.com
"Despite its sub-one-pound weight (this jacket) is warm, too: In open fields and on city streets, its goose down insulation laughs in the face of punishing wind gusts, and its lightweight body is ideal for layering against the elements."

WARM: LOW ACTIVITY RATING 45°F. MODERATE ACTIVITY RATING -10°F.
The lightest down-insulated field jacket we've ever built. The award-winning design includes a 40-denier ripstop nylon shell with CORDURA® nylon overlays and stretch side panels for complete freedom of movement. Our StormRepel® durable water-repellent (DWR) finish sheds moisture. The 700 fill StormDown® uses DWR technology to retain its insulating loft even in wet conditions.

  • 1.74-oz, 40D ripstop nylon (shell); 75D x 166D Cordura® nylon (overlays); 95% polyester/5% spandex (side panels)
  • MicroTherm® channel quilting for maximum heat efficiency and minimum bulk
  • Stretch side panels complete freedom of movement
  • Layers easily, and is ultra-compressible so it packs small when not needed
  • Secure zip handwarmer pockets
  • Fleece-lined collar
  • Machine wash
  • Imported
FIT
  • Classic: Our most universal fit. Not too slim, not too relaxed on body. Designed to fit over midweight layers.

    Comments about Men's MicroTherm® StormDown® Field Jacket:

This is one of the best jackets for the money you could ever get. It runs a little large, and unfortunately for me, they didn't have the next size down for me. But, for you...don't even hesitate.

      Comments about Men's MicroTherm® StormDown® Field Jacket:

I bought this jacket December 2014 in Black.
A lightweight down that will keep you toasty in all but the coldest days! On a 5 below day here in PA I was fine with this jacket and a light hoodie underneath...truly awsome.
Love the fit and style. Love the reinforcement patches on the arms and shoulders.

Just bought another one with the 30% off code as a spare!

                  Comments about Men's MicroTherm® StormDown® Field Jacket:

This jacket breathes adventure. Just by wearing it you feel ready, both physically and - somehow - mentally, to face the elements. But hey, my feelings are not exactly what this review is all about. So lets face the actual facts:

I was looking for a lightweight jacket that could also offer me some protection. I'm from Brazil - a tropical country. I wasn't looking for freezing temperatures protection. In fact, I stumbled upon the Storm Down Jacket while looking for something else: an everyday motorcycle jacket.

I hear the haters screaming and shouting names out there! Yes, I know this is not a proper riding jacket. But I went ahead and bought it, and have been testing it for the last four months before writing this review. And I can tell you upfront: this jacket is exactly what I needed.

                  - It is very lightweight: it packs as small as my head! No, I didn't compare the volume of my head and of the packed jacket. I know this because I sometimes store it inside my cafe racer helmet when I arrive at my destinations.

                  - It is very robust. Although it is made of very light and collapsible materials, once you are wearing it, it feels as a shield. Even when I'm speeding my Triumph down the highway, the sleeves or collar never ever move or fold. That guarantees protection from the punishing winds for me on the road, as it will for you on the wilderness. But that could be a dangerous thing right there: you may feel you are more protected then you actually are. You can probably blame this on the cordura patches, which do, by the way, offer a greater resistance on the right spots. But it won't, I'm well aware of, be the greatest protection in case I fall of my bike. So let's work on the not-falling premise here.

                  - It is very flexible. I believe the designers at Eddie Bauer have been iterating through this jacket's design for some time now. That's the only explanation to its very unique, slim but flexible, fit. I am 1.87 meters tall, 72 kilos, athletic but skinny and long arms. I ordered the small size and it fitted perfectly. I usually wear it over a light shirt. It fits just right around the waist and chest. There is a longer end on the lower back which works perfectly for protection while I'm sitting on the bike. The jacket's sleeves are perfectly long but considerably bigger than you'd expect, in terms of width around the arm. That felt awkward at first, and slightly weird when you are wearing it normally: as if it was built for very muscular guys. But when I first drove my bike I got it: no friction at all! The extra space around the arms guarantee movements everywhere, and as it turns out, it worked perfectly for my riding position. Sleeves stay exactly where they are supposed to be on the wrist area, and I feel absolutely no friction over the shoulder area. Again, all the merits here to the designers at Eddie Bauer, who thought this through to a hunting/outdoors scenario, but ended up creating something very flexible for other fields as well.

                  - It's water resistant. It does protect you from some rain. You can see the drops mounting over the jacket and not being absorbed by it. On the bike, it protects me well if it is a very light rain and for a short period of time. Anything heavier or longer than that though, means that the speed pressure starts forcing the drops into the jacket, usually in the folded areas in the sleeves around the elbow area. Considering that, I can only imagine it would cope just fine in the wilderness against a moderate rain for a short period of time.

                  - It is stylish. I am a industrial/graphic designer who works with innovation and follow up the trends very closely, and my girlfriend is also a designer/artist. The jacket is very stylish. Who would have thought one would be able to find that in a hunter's gear section. But they pulled it of. I wish we could work in a project with Eddie Bauer's designers someday.

                  - It is just enough. I don't need to wear anything else other than a light shirt underneath, and I don't need to wear anything at all over it. It doesn't matter if it is 10 degrees celsius or 30. Its superior materials protects me from the cold winds, as it keeps me fresh on the hot summer days. Exactly what I needed.

And those are all the tangible facts. This jacket is packed with intangible benefits. And there is something else I need to bring your attention to. Eddie Bauer's support is - hands down - the best I have ever dealt with. Cutting a long story short, they went down unimaginable paths to make sure I'd get my product here in Brazil, even under a very controversial situation. They transformed an experience into a very real customer satisfaction. And boy, am I happy with my jacket! I feel like wearing it to face whatever elements are thrown my way - either in the wilderness, or in the concrete jungle everyday.
