SOFT SHELL

The primary benefit of a shoft shell is that the fabric sheds weather but still stretches and breathes at an elevated rate during mountain activity. This performance attribute is why First Ascent stretch-woven soft shells are such perfect choices for cold-weather activities that require constant temperature regulation and liberating stretch.

STORMREPEL®

Durable, Water-Repellent Finish

Our StormRepel® DWR finish sheds moisture so it doesn't soak into the fabric.

Seth Waterfall

"My favorite jacket for everything. I loved the versatility of the original Sandstone, and by adding a stretchy hood, we have extended the range of this soft shell to the highest of mountains."

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's Sandstone™ Soft Shell Hooded Jacket:

Awesome jacket. Exactly what I was looking for: lightweight (it virtually disappears!), lots of stretch, lots of breathibility; something to throw on in the shoulder season as the temps start to drop. Bonus, it layers perfectly with the Microtherm Stormdown jacket to make a formidable jacket system that can handle a range of temps, wind, light rain, and exertion levels without adding bulk or weight. Somehow either jacket can be worn equally easily under or over the other. Sorcery!

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's Sandstone™ Soft Shell Hooded Jacket:

I used the Sandstone jacket when climbing Mt. Adams in southwestern Washington recently. When going uphill all day long, you do generate some heat. The jacket did a nice job cutting the wind, but still breathed well. I was very impressed. Works exceptionally well with a lightweight polly-pro top, and even has enough room to cover a heavier fleece layer. Actually most of the clothing I wore was FirstAscent clothing, Guide Pro pants, Fleece hoody, Downlight Jacket, Rainier Stormshell pants, Guide gloves, and a FA Buff. Everything worked well. First Ascent clothing is excellent and thoughtfully designed.

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's Sandstone™ Soft Shell Hooded Jacket:

I was hesitant about this jacket because other reviewers had complained it was too thin, especially at this price point. I will admit, it does seem a bit thin, but it's not meant to be an insulated piece. This is a great outer layer when your main concerns are wind and/or rain, but you don't want to overheat. It's perfect for activities like biking or hiking that get your pulse up because it breaths well and wont hold in the sweat. Also, the fit is perfect and it very durable. My only complaint is that the hood is a bit small...fits well under a helmet but not over. Overall a really great jacket and worth the price.
