Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Peak XV Down Jacket:

I haven't been able to test this thoroughly yet due to the fact it never got that cold this past winter. I'm not planning on going to the Himalaya's but am planning on using it for winter camping/backcountry touring in the Tetons and Yellowstone. I think winter stargazing will be a lot warmer this year. Build quality is great. The fit is large. Even though I'm only 5 foot 9, on most Eddie Bauer products I have to get a large tall in order for the sleeves not to expose skin when stretching, and for the chest to fit right, and I like the longer fit to cover lower on the body. I went with the extra large (does not come in talls) and I like the fit. there is plenty of space for layers. I bought it on discounted, clearance and have to say that was a great deal. Plenty of pockets and some of the interior ones are large enough for water bottles. Glad to see the men's and women's design and features looks the same now (unisex sizing?). I bought my wife a women's Peak XV several years ago and if the women's design matches the men's it is an improvement on the old women's design. Longer cut and more and better pockets for the women now. I don't know how waterproof/breathable the fabric is but it is nicely wind resistant. It does not come with a stuff sack or storage bag. The men's XL will stuff into a sil-nylon bag that is 11"x15" when measured laying flat.

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Peak XV Down Jacket:

I was looking for a warm, high insulation down, hooded coat for climbing Shasta this past March. Was looking ideally for something that would pack easily into my small ascent pack. I had a spare sac to put it into. While the jacket barely fit into the pack, it in all other ways performed flawlessly, was super warm even in 50+ MPH winds on the ridges.

Very, very warm. A double zipper would've been a nice addition.
