World's Best Down®

Our First Ascent guide team built this ultralight jacket for alpine climbing in cool to cold weather. Windproof ripstop polyester shell. Each cluster of the super high-loft 800 fill StormDown insulation is also treated with a DWR finish so the down retains its loft and superior insulating properties even in wet conditions.

"It's made specifically to be a very lightweight layer with down, which makes it lighter than any kind of other insulation and very compact and packable. When you wear it, you hardly know you have it on."
Ed Viesturs, Eddie Bauer Alpine Guide

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's MicroTherm StormDown Jacket:

I purchased this jacket after watching it for some time. Once I received it I was very excited to try it on in "cold" weather. Today it is around a high of 55 outside and the jacket just doesn't keep in the warmth. I'm wearing an undershirt, polo, pull over, and jacket and it still doesn't' keep me warm enough. My arms feel warm and my chest, but my back does not. The heat seems to radiate right out of the back arm stretch fabric. Disappointing as I really wanted to enjoy this jacket. It also does shed some feathers, but not nearly as many as some reviewers comment. I will likely go back to The Northface for insulated jackets after this as my thermoball is much warmer.

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's MicroTherm StormDown Jacket:

This jacket is morenbreathable than I expected, very comfortable to wear. Fit is a bit looser than I expected, cut for an overcoat or outside layer, not a sport fit or under layer fit. Could easily wear a shell over this jacket.

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's MicroTherm StormDown Jacket:

I have not had a ton of time with using this jacket as it has gone from fall back to summer here. The couple times I used it I was pleased. I bought this as a moderate layer to go under a technical shell. I used this alone in 50 degree temps with only a t shirt under and I was completely warm. It's incredibly light. Construction seems to be good but only a few times with it. The fit is really my only issue. It states an active fit but I would not consider this to be an active fit. It doesn't seem tapered in the mid section and the sleeves also don't seem to taper.

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's MicroTherm StormDown Jacket:

The changes made to this jacket has not done anything to improve the jacket. All changes made it simply made it a cheap jacket that I no longer want to wear. I've been buying Eddie Bauer jackets for the last 5 years. The jackets are cheap in terms of material, quality and workmanship. I am switching back to Mountain Hardwear, just purchased the Ghost Whisperer down jacket.
