Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's MicroTherm® StormDown® Hooded Jacket:

I am 6'2" 185lbs and 33" waist. The medium was too small all around, the medium tall was too tight in the shoulders and chest and the large fit my shoulders but had too much belly room and no draw cord. The shell material is not light or packable. A micro light jacket should use Pertex quantum GL or other lighter material . There is next to zero down in it and not any warmer than a cloud layer fleece. At full price there are far better options out there. Hopefully Eddie Bauer will update the materials and fit. The Evertherm is better in every way and similar price.
Unfortunately i had to take mine back. Oh and Eddie Bauer uses the absolute worst shipping known to man. Over the last 10+ orders it has taken 11-15 days to arrive.

    Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's MicroTherm® StormDown® Hooded Jacket:

Warmth: This is plenty warm for what it is. I have to wonder about reviewers saying it is not warm. Perhaps they are bamboozled by the shameless rating of -10F, which is nonsensical, and downright misleading. 45F is more plausible, though of course will vary person to person. Remember, this is a very light thin stuffable jacket – it takes the place of a heavier bulkier fleece or wool sweater, it is not a winter parka – after all it weighs 13 oz, and stuffs into its chest pocket.

Fit: This is a very narrowly cut jacket, more trimly cut than any other similar jacket I have tried on. The stretch panels though make it work fine as a climbing jacket as it is not constricting. A nice thing about the fit is it cuts way down on drafts.

Water resistance: I have not tried it in true rain, but have been out in misting, slightly drizzling conditions and it sheds water very well. Time will tell how that holds up, but so far so good.

    Wind resistance: Very good.

Pockets: Very hard to find this combination of pockets which is a big reason I bought this jacket. Side hand pockets of course. Chest pocket on outside, where I like it, for reading glasses (hey, I'm old!) and/or sunglasses. Interior stuff pockets for keeping gloves dry and warm, handy, and where they will not fall into the snow.

Stuffs easily into its chest pocket, and has a loop so you can clip it to your climbing harness. I am a little nervous about snagging the jacket and either tearing it or the loop, so not sure how much value there is in the biner-loop, but might be useful.

Hood: Does not adjust, but pretty snug especially if you zip up the jacket so is fine, and easy to use.

All-in-all this is a great jacket for what it is – a light jacket for chilly days around town or high in the mountains, or as a layer in a system for deep winter, easily packed away when not needed, able to stand up to wind and damp, with a nice set of features.

Fit not what I was hoping for

    Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's MicroTherm® StormDown® Hooded Jacket:

I bought this jacket while it was on sale. For the sale price, it was very good value. The fit however, was small and the jacket itself is a bit short for my tastes. I would prefer it to be a couple of inches longer at the waist. I bought a similar jacket from MEC in a medium which fits well and is usually what I would order. The medium in this jacket was too tight so I would order a large next time. Also, I ordering online was a bit tricky as the first time I ordered, I waited for a number of days before I got a reply saying that they didn't have the jacket that I ordered in stock. I then tried ordering another couple of times and it kept changing which sizes were available in which colours. It was a bit of a pain. In the end, I'm glad I didn't get the jacket I originally ordered because I saw a guy wearing it in the mall and I don't think I would have liked the colour on me anyway :) I might try to order one again in the fall when they are in stock again as I still really like the style.

Very nice jacket that is light to wear, but warm. Works great on its own or as a layer under a shell.
