World's Best Down®

Our First Ascent guide team built this ultralight jacket for alpine climbing in cool to cold weather. Windproof ripstop polyester shell. Each cluster of the super high-loft 800 fill StormDown insulation is also treated with a DWR finish so the down retains its loft and superior insulating properties even in wet conditions.

"It's made specifically to be a very lightweight layer with down, which makes it lighter than any kind of other insulation and very compact and packable. When you wear it, you hardly know you have it on."
Ed Viesturs, Eddie Bauer Alpine Guide

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's MicroTherm StormDown Jacket:

Bought about a year ago and just love it!
It is ultra light and keeps me warm to about 25 degrees.
No problem with down leaking out.
It may not be for the coldest days but great for Seattle!

      Insulation Sheds Too much

      By S

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's MicroTherm StormDown Jacket:

The jacket looks great and is warm but it sheds insulation constantly. I am on my 2nd one and it is still happening even without washing it.

      Nice jacket with major flaw.

      By Kevin

      from Michigan

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's MicroTherm StormDown Jacket:

Wanted a light weight 800 fill power down jacket to replace my damaged NorthFace jacket. I was very optimistic about this jacket from the description and trying on in the shop.
There is a stretchy panel across the shoulder blades on both sides that has no insulation. When out in 15 degree temps with a 10 mph wind the cold came right through those panels.
I was really surprised that a First Ascent item would have such a flaw. I trusted the claim of thorough field testing but am very disappointed with the jacket. I actually stay very warm during outside activities and layer with performance clothing but this jacket misses the mark.
I would recommend making this same jacket without these panels and feel you would then have a great jacket.

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's MicroTherm StormDown Jacket:

I have the same jacket from a few years ago - great jacket! Wanted to get newer colors - but the proportion is much different. This would be considered a trim fit!!! I have numerous EB jackets and coats and alway have worn a Med - as a 5'9 170lb, 32 inch waist with a athletic build, this jacket still does not fit well. The waist is true for a 32 inch waist, but there is no give. The shoulders and arms are loose. Tried on a couple of different colors to make sure that it wasn't a sample variation. If I moved up to a large so that the waist felt more comfortable, then the chest and shoulders were way too loose.
