Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's EverTherm Down Jacket:

Please read Climber415's review because it is spot on and I don't need to copy him. Unlike the author of that review I have a small beer belly to match my athletic prowess so I welcome a little extra room in the belly but I can see how that would be a detriment to folks with a flatter stomach.

Best Uses

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's EverTherm Down Jacket:

The problem with offering actual outdoor gear, that a serious climber or mountaineer would use, and distributing it in shopping malls, is that a truly technical piece will be criticized.

This is a spot on, technical down jacket. It's not waterproof, because it's not supposed to be. A shell is for water protection. Combining the two would mean that it's not packable, nor lightweight.

It's cool to wear and support your favorite manufacturer while walking college campuses, or visiting the shopping mall. There are plenty of technical looking pieces that offer good warmth and water protection. The majority of what's available from any manufacturer is aimed at this market. Actual technical gear is built around a sport, and is uncompromising. It is not about fashion, it's generally not multi-use, it is designed exclusively for function in extreme environments.

Nice work with this piece, EB! Please, produce more gear aimed for athletes. Perhaps label these differently, like your First Ascent line, but market them clearly as uncompromising technical gear.

The only fault with this jacket is one which exists across the entire EB line - it's too large in the belly. Climbers/Athletes have broad backs, large shoulders and chest, tiny waist. A bulky waist will fit a large demographic, but it's not great for keeping me warm and windproof. The overly tight armpits and back are a bummer too.
