Get Rid of That Bulky & Heavy Winter Jacket!!

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's BC Igniter Jacket:

I have been wearing heavy / bulky winter jackets for years, mainly on Michigan's coldest days. I hated them. They were difficult to move in, uncomfortable to wear in the car, impossible to travel with, and made me hot when doing any type of activity. The time came to replace my winter jacket, so I checked out EB, since I am a Gold Member. I came across the BC Ignitor jacket, but initially walked past it because I thought it was a spring or fall jacket. After trying on heavier skiing jackets, the sales associate recommended I try the BC Igniter jacket, after I told him why I hated most winter jackets.

I will admit I was reluctant, but I tried it on, even stepping outside to see how warm it was. I was impressed. For the weight of a spring or fall jacket, this jacket was quite warm. The size was slightly larger than EB's normal medium size, but I'm sure that is to accommodate some layering of typical winter clothing. This jacket allows great freedom of movement with longer sleeves and a slightly longer torso. There is complete coverage of my neck, and the hood stays up and provides the same amount of warmth as the rest of the jacket.

For about a week now, I have been wearing the jacket every day. I can wear it in the car comfortably, I can shovel the snow without sweating to death (and I don't get wet either because it's waterproof), the wind stays out, and it packs down to next to nothing when I travel. In short, it was everything I was looking for in a winter jacket without being heavy, bulky, or cumbersome.

A few minor complaints with the design, but these don't make me like the jacket less. First, the drawstrings don't stay put. I use a knot to keep the bottom drawstring snug. Second, with full neck coverage, the collar up front needs to be tucked in (just the tips) so it doesn't constantly rub my face when I am walking or sitting in the car, and don't want the jacket zipped all the way up.

The storm color with the orange zips and inside is attractive.

good jacket, sleeve length needs work

    By guy from MN

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's BC Igniter Jacket:

6'0"/180lbs. Originally went with a medium and found the sleeve and waist lengths to be spot on. However, the coat didnt fit my chest/shoulders...which, considering Im not a big ripped guy, I found to be discouraging. Ended up going with a large, but finding the sleeve length to be 2-3" too long. Works OK, as you can cinch them up tighter, but pretty baggy especially when managing gloves at the same time. Overall warmth is great, I live in MN and this covers most anything around town. I do add another baselayer jacket when it dips below ~(-10) or plan to be outdoors for extended periods of time. Havent done any extensive outdoors activity yet.

    Good warmth but design flaw

    By Kar

    Pros

    • Warm
    • Water resistant

    Cons

    • Bad skirt design for drawcord

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's BC Igniter Jacket:

I bought this jacket 2 years ago and enjoyed it for it's outstanding warmth factor and minimalist design, yet stylish. My partner took the old jacket and I rebought it again for 2017 based on the qualities above - very warm, water resistant etc. However this jacket has 1 very poor design flaw. On the skirt, where you pull on the drawcord to seal in the warmth or fit around your waist, there is no mechanism to hold the cord in place! Most ski and shell jackets have a push button you pull to the tightness you want and the button holds in place. At first I couldn't understand how Eddie could make a great jacket and then flaw it like this. I took it to the store and even they were confused. The cords have little rubber " nibs " which are supposed to stay in place after you pull the cord on, but they don't. Trust me even if they do for a bit, the cord will gradually release. The only way to remedy this is to tie a knot in the drawcord. WTH! Anyhow, I repurchased this jacket for this year despite this flaw because the warmth and design outweighs this issue. Eddie fix this design and add push button to cinch the cord.

      Nice Jacket

      By EKMC

Comments about First Ascent|Men|Jackets & Vests Men's BC Igniter Jacket:

Overall I am very happy with this jacket. I am 6'3", 185 LB and the medium tall size fits me well with enough room to wear layers underneath without feeling restricted. I tried on a lot of other brands before deciding on this jacket, but most of those brands only have standard sizes that do not work for me (usually too short or too wide). My wife has had a few Eddie Bauer jackets that she really likes including one she just bought this winter, and I am glad she referred me. We have had some arctic-like cold days here early this winter, and this jacket keeps me warm and blocks wind and water as advertised. I also like how light weight this jacket is, but still does a great job of insulating. For the price I paid and how well I like how this jacket fits, I think this one was the perfect choice for me!
