Great weight to protection ratio

Comments about Men's Eddie Bauer Lukla Pro Mid Hiker:

As opposed to another review, I found width and overall fit right on. Very comfortable even after a high mileage hike. Excellent forefoot protection on top of rocky trails for this weight of shoe. Weight feels like a trail runner. Not appropriate for week plus hikes with loaded high volume packs, but I don't think Eddie is selling it as such.

Comments about Men's Eddie Bauer Lukla Pro Mid Hiker:

These are surprisingly light in weight, dramatically less than the "real" hiking boots I've been using. If the fit works for you, these should be great for general sturdy footwear around town as well as trail hiking with a not too heavy pack. But sadly, they don't work for me. The fit is narrow, more so than the same size jogging-type shoe. Removing the footbed for inspection and comparison reveals the foot platform is considerably narrower than a typical shoe, with the sides attaching to the horizontal base and then curving upward to make the side of the boot. The narrow footbed combined with the curving boot wall as it meets the footbed exerts lateral pressure on the outside bottom of your foot, which, over time, would likely lead to either a sore foot or blisters. This might vary from boot to boot as it was more pronounced and bothersome in the left boot than the right. Just wearing the boots around the house and while lounging in the recliner over the evening made my left foot especially uncomfortable. If they are not comfortable with my feet propped up, how could they be comfortable after a day of backpacking? If there was a nearby store where I could examine a number of boots, perhaps I could put together a pair that fit acceptably well. But, this is unrealistic when using mail order. Of note, my feet are not wide. They are perhaps slightly narrow, but not enough so for these boots. The problem seems to be either a design or production flaw. Could this work itself out with enough miles on the trail? Maybe, but I don't believe they should feel uncomfortable when I'm doing nothing.
The tongue is also a bit of a problem. It is sturdy and thick, but a crease forms in the middle of the tongue (which was more pronounced and bothersome on the right than the left) which creates additional pressure on the top of the foot at the point of the crease. I could get around the problem by lacing the boot a bit differently, so it was an irritant but not a deal killer.

Comments about Men's Eddie Bauer Lukla Pro Mid Hiker:

Nice shoe. Runs a little bit narrow based on my experience with athletic shoes but not enough to go to a wide size in my opinion. Delivery was as scheduled.
