    Comments about Haines Pack:

I love this pack, however, I thought it was going to be a slight bit more room in the main compartment but overall I would recommend this pack to any backcountry enthusiast or frequent air traveler. Fits all my avy safety gear, first aid, clothing, lap top, etc. Good wait distribution and pretty good lumbar support. Zippers are a bit tough to open but I'm sure they will loosen a bit with time and wear on it. Good construction material.

          Comments about Haines Pack:

Fits me better than any pack I have ever worn except my large Arclite, also from First Ascent, and both hold about the same amount. Both are large packs, and both have been extremely comfortable to carry with the heaviest largest load I have been able to stuff in them. Somewhat different shape, attachment points, etc, so may fit some loads better in one and other loads better in the other, but so far everything I have wanted to carry fit well in either.

Easy to load and unload, easy to find anything without unloading. Does the job extremely well with no drama. No drama is wonderful in a serious back pack, or any gear that needs to be reliable.

Easy to walk climb balance with either pack.

I made a previous review with a link to a video but i guess since i mentioned price or eddie bauer didn't like my tone it didnt get put up.i'll try again and skip the video.this pack material is really nice. The TPU coated 420 ripstop is bomber and impregnated with a rubber to make it immune to water absorption. that is the high point of my review. The pack is relatively heavy. It has 7 or 8 separate zippers on it yet no hipbelt pockets like almost every other touring pack in the world. The amount of zippers and pockets come off as gimmicky. We're talking 4-5 individual 'pocket' areas on the pack not including the main body area. All of the external zippers have metal pull dongles on them which...means there are like 10 of these metal pull pieces on the pack.it has a collar extension and then a little pouch which holds a 'lid' of sorts if you wished to have the collar extension full and lash this lid onto two pieces of webbing on the front of the pack like how the alchemist line operates in 'expanded mode'. Really we're talking about putting a flap over your extension collar... hello floating lid? that you can raise the load lifters when you use the extension collar..etc.. strikes me as over-engineered.conclusion: if you are a total gear head who loves outdoors and gear gizmos this is the pack for you. if you want something simple for skimo/touring..this is not it.
