Live Your Adventure™

Built in partnership with the Antarctic Logistics and Expeditions (ALE) team this parka has it all: extremely durable fabric, loads of down to keep you warm and pockets to hold everything from energy bars to equipment manuals. We call it bombproof cold–weather workwear but the guys who helped design it call it just part of the job.

"It's the real deal: The heavy–duty nylon shell resists abrasion, precip, and water, while the 700–fill down insulation is so hearty it feels like you could survive a long South Pole winter in it."

Antarctic Logistics and Expeditions is the provider of logistic support and safety backup for climbing expeditions to Mt. Vinson, the highest peak in Antarctica. Working in the world's coldest environment, the mechanics at ALE operate and maintain everything from snowmobiles and turbo–prop planes to the tracked passenger vans that shuttle climbers from the blue ice runway to Union Glacier Camp. As part of First Ascent's Vinson expedition, our design team worked with ALE to create a down parka that would not only keep their employees warm in the coldest place on earth but also stand up to the daily task of twisting wrenches on the ice.

EB700™ DOWN 700 FILL POWER

Fill power is the measure of down's loft and insulating efficiency. The higher the fill power, the better the down. We use only premium goose down. The down clusters are larger, denser and more resilient to ensure the best performance and durability.

Peter Whittaker

"Built for workers in the most extreme cold conditions: Antarctica, Alaska and Northern Canada. Super–warm, functional, and durable, this is the ultimate workwear parka for sub–freezing locations."

Very warm & sturdy.

This parka is extremely warm and built to last. I really liked the heavy exterior material. It was a size too big though, which is usually opposite the case for Eddie Bauer. I purchased the XL & probably should have gotten the L.

Pros

  • Durable
  • warm

Cons

  • Too Bulky

Best Uses

Living in Western MI requires a warm coat or lots of layers. I chose the warm coat. The Emporer Parka with its longer length and 700 power down fill does the job. Designed for work rather than winter hiking or mountaineering, the shell is more durable and stands up to daily wear better than other similarly priced super warm parkas, which are made to be lightweight and packable, although more fragile. This coat is neither light nor packable but will survive anything thrown its way. Buy this coat for daily wear in weather from the 20'Fs and below without worry for tears or scuffs. Dark color hides dirt well. If you want something for winter athletics, look to MontBell or better yet the Eddie Peak XV. I wear medium in everything EB but require a small in all their coats.

It is very warm but extremely bulky and very very heavy for a down product. The outer corduroy shell is tough but not waterproof.
