Worst straps ever. Sharp, heavy, and ridiculously stiff.

Comments about Gear|Backpacks Bygone 23 Pack:

I received the backpack, looked good, so I set it aside. Then I read a couple of the negative reviews regarding the straps and I though I'd post a critical comment on how the current generation is weak-willed and -minded and can't deal with anything that isn't perfectly suited for them, etc. But just to be fair, I first tried the backpack on. Yes, the padding inside the straps are absurdly stiff, but it wasn't all that bad. Then I loaded the bag with just a few articles of clothing and suddenly the stiff straps became a serious burden. I have no clue what is inside this straps, but the material is both unnecessarily stiff and sharp. With even just a little bit of weight placed inside the bag, the straps will cut into the back of the collar bone area. I can't for a moment imagine what the design team was thinking when they approved of the strap filling. When I ran the same test with my Herschel backpack (which I was hoping to replace with this Eddie Bauer one) it was truly a welcome relief. No exaggeration. Just wearing this EB backpack for 2 minutes with a moderate load of clothes (I filled it only with a pair of jeans, a pair of sweatpants, and two sweatshirts) will create an ache in the upper back part of your shoulders, just below the neck. You'll notice this pain immediately upon taking the backpack off. This is simply a good-looking bag with functional compartments that is rendered absolutely useless due to the worst possible choice in straps.

You need to fix the straps

Comments about Gear|Backpacks Bygone 23 Pack:

I love EB products and have been buying them for years but this one is disappointing. The biggest complaint that I have is the straps are so slick that they will not stay on my shoulders and the pack is continually slipping off. Every other pack that I have owned from EB has some type of non slip material on the inside of the straps to keep them from slipping but these are not. I cannot keep this pack on no matter what I try or how i adjust it. I guess I could duct tape it to my body.

Comments about Gear|Backpacks Bygone 23 Pack:

Ordered this for a carry on, for travel. Great size, quality backpack. I have it in the color Fossil, note that the front pouch is navy. I expected black. Happy with my purchase. Really good deal on clearance.
