        Comments about Alchemist® 40 Backpack:

I haven't ever written a review before (and probably never again). This product however warrants. These Alchemist bags are awesome...light weight, enough organization to easily access gear, great size. In fact, I bought the 40L (converts to 55L) for backpacking after using the Alchemist 30L for long day hikes. Great products. Only real criticism I have is that I wish the two side pockets were a little deeper.

Expandable for an approach but can be shrunk for summit. Comfortable with great features. A bit heavy but very durable. I love this pack.

                Comments about Alchemist® 40 Backpack:

I got this pack about two years ago. The first one I got was the blue one, and it came delivered with a rip on the top of the pack. I returned it to my local store and picked up the yellow one, with no hassle (one of the main reasons I shop Eddie Bauer). I feel that this pack is made from good material but it does have a few venerable spots, my first reason for giving it 4 stars. The second reason is because it is a little heavy compared to other packs but I love this pack so much it doesn't stop me.

I use this pack for multi day backpacking trips, and for skiing, snowshoeing, and mountaineering.
Its amazing for all of these as its completely waterproof except for the loading hole, and the hydration slots. It has a multi use pad that doubles, and rescue device. It fits mountain axes great, crampons fit great on the back. The bottom of the pack is super durable and water proof, as I sit the pack down on snow often and for extended periods. Another nice feature is that the back band is adjustable vertically so it can fit different torso sizes, if you have different people carrying the pack. There are also loops on the back band to hang anything you want.

All in all I would buy this pack again for what I do, and the yellow color turned out to be great as its easily seen for rescue.

                  Comments about Alchemist® 40 Backpack:

Backpack is made from really good material. Looks that is made for really serious adventures. What I miss is complicated design of pockets.
Pocket for crampons could be more accessable!
                  I miss small side-belt posket for chocolat-bar.
Biggest minus is shipping and custtom cost if you are not from U.S.
