    Comments about Alchemist® 30 Pack:

This bag is fantastic. I bought it in blue three years ago for a Mt. Kilimanjaro summit. The description says it is water resistant but the bag kept its contents so much drier than one would expect by the description. A roll of toilet paper held in the top pouch stayed perfectly dry after a 3-hour rain storm. The outer straps will get wet but your contents will be fine. I have used this pack often over the years and it also makes a great carry-on bag for commercial flights. It is good for a weekend pack and I have been able to use it for 2-4 day trips. The construction is extremely durable for a rugged expedition and the frame is very light. I have used the inner pocket adjacent to the frame to hold my 17" lap-top computer. I love how the zipper allows easy access to all my contents. The simple design is everything I need.

Functionality of the bag is fantastic! Fully loaded, walked for several miles and the bag sits nicely on the lower part of your back.

            Comments about Alchemist® 30 Pack:

I wanted to try out a 30L top-loader pack, and thought the Alchemist seemed like a decent option. I'm a seasoned backcountry skiing splitboarder.

The initial attraction to the pack was the sleek aesthetic look. I liked that weight of the pack was reasonable, that it had side carry options capable of fitting wider splitboard planks, and that there was wet/dry storage areas in the pack. It was also described as having additional exterior strap loops which can be clutch.

I ordered the pack for the upcoming winter season. Having received it over the summer, I used it on a few hiking outings. I found that the 30L contains ample size and almost seems larger than other 30L from competing brands that I've used. This is apparently due to the top-loader design. Different compartment storage in the pack are perfectly placed and not overdone.

Then comes the ski season, and my appreciation for this pack dwindles. The wet/dry storage doesn't quite hold my avy shovel well enough to allow space for skins storage and still allow for ease of access to dry items, food, etc. The pack could stand to have at least one pouch pocket for on-the-fly access to certain items. Lastly, but by far the most disappointing was the exterior storage loops. These things are terrible. They are barried in the sides of the back side of the pack, super difficult to access even with warm/dry fingers, and the design does not seem to allow the use of commonly sized buckle straps. In the ad, it looks like the athlete wearing the back is carrying a pair of crampons using ski-straps. Ski straps are great, but if the strap loops on the back allowed for the use of different sized straps, that would be 100% better. The material on the exterior of the pack, the clear coating, is super slick if you set this thing down on the snow- I almost lost the thing will transitioning to descent mode upon a precarious perch in stormy weather while skiing around Rainier- something my previous pack would not do.

Bottom line, I liked the pack, but I will be going back to my previous 30L pack.

              Comments about Alchemist® 30 Pack:

I had been searching for a backpack that would fit me (6'4" / 280+) better than the packs I have always had. While this pack is just a tad short, it fits well, rides comfortably, and the chest/waist straps have plenty of tag-end left over.

My primary use of this pack will be when I carry my camera along on day excursions; in a bustling downtown, theme park, or out on a trail. Even though I have a pack designed for my camera gear (only), I wanted a pack that was versatile enough to carry the stuff you have to take along when you have kids and to protect my camera when it's not slung across my body. I know this pack will handle all that I can throw at it.

I recently took the pack on a weekend road trip, stuffing my clothes & 15" MacBook inside and strapping my vanity bag plus a pair of sneakers to the outside. It was fully loaded, but held everything well. Most importantly, it felt comfortable on my shoulders.
