- In 1953, Americans attempting the first ascent of K2 came to Eddie. They needed a down parka. He built the Kara Koram. The team failed to summit, but were hailed as one of the greatest in history for their heroism. Eddie's parka went on to be chosen by many of the leading expeditions of the 20th century.
